For the past 15 years I have been making quilts, but before that I was co-owner of a business that sewed quilt squares and original quilted designs to the fronts of sweatshirts that we sold at craft shows in the Houston area. I have taught classes at It’s A Stitch in Humble, TX and have since adapted and published some of the designs I created for those classes, like Road to Tokyo, Paddlewheel Stars, and Chicken for Dinner.

Over the years I have been a member of the Greater Houston Quilt Guild and am a long-standing member of the Kingwood Area Quilt Guild. I have been a member of two scrap bees and am currently a member of a contemporary bee called The Frayed Knots.

I have never met a scrap quilt I didn’t like and really love all kinds of fabrics. I collect blues and yellows, blacks and whites, ethnic fabrics, 30’s fabrics, and particularly love the 1800’s collections. So my stash is quite eclectic. I do not appliqué very often, but when I do, I lean toward rudimentary or primitive designs. I currently enjoy making the new coiled baskets and still like to do redwork embroidery now and then.

My inspiration comes in all forms, but mostly I am drawn to geometric designs. Simplifying complex patterns is like disassembling a puzzle to me.

I have been designing patterns for Black Cat Creations for the past two years and love it! It’s always a challenge to be original, but it’s fun, too.
